Welcome to Sparkle and Shine Day Camp
Meet Esperanza Mendez
Hello! My name is Esperanza Mendez, and I’m a proud Kindergarten teacher with a passion for making a difference in the lives of young learners. With a Master’s degree in Education Curriculum and Instruction, I’ve dedicated my career to creating engaging, meaningful learning experiences that inspire curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.
As both an educator and a mom, I’ve come to recognize the need for high-quality Summer and Day Camps programs in the Bay Area—programs that are not only fun and enriching but also thoughtfully designed to support children’s growth during the summer months. This realization led me to launch my very own summer camp program/day camps:
Sparkle and Shine.
At Sparkle and Shine, my mission is to provide a hands-on, culturally responsive, and engaging environment where children can:
- Explore their creativity.
- Foster a love for reading and learning.
- Build confidence through experiential and collaborative activities.
- Immerse themselves in Spanish language lessons and outdoor adventures.

Outdoor Adventures
- Beach Trips – Focus on sensory play, building sand structures, and learning about marine life.
- Park Visits – Include scavenger hunts, nature walks, and outdoor art activities.
- Walking Adventures – Encourage observation skills with nature journals and games like "I Spy."
Camp Academic Reading
- Incorporate Themed Reading Days – For example, “Mystery Monday” or “Fairy Tale Friday” to build excitement.
- Interactive Story Activities – Encourage campers to act out scenes, draw favorite characters, or create alternate endings.
- Reader’s Theater – Help students build confidence by letting them perform short scripts based on books.
- Book Clubs or Buddy Reading – Pair campers to discuss books and share their favorite parts.
Spanish Language Lessons
- Songs and Chants – Use music to teach vocabulary and pronunciation.
- Storytelling in Spanish – Pair bilingual books with activities that reinforce comprehension.
- Games and Activities – Incorporate games like "Lotería" (Spanish bingo) or scavenger hunts using Spanish clues.
- Cultural Exploration – Introduce traditions, foods, and holidays from Spanish-speaking countries to deepen cultural understanding.
Arts and Crafts
Arts and crafts are a daily highlight at our day camp! Campers will explore a wide variety of creative projects, gaining hands-on experience with different materials and techniques each day.
Children will enjoy:
- Daily themed art projects that align with camp activities
- Painting, drawing, and watercolor exploration
- Planting and nature-based art, such as terrarium building, leaf pressing, flower dyeing, and creating eco-friendly prints
- Sensory creations, like making and sculpting with homemade playdough
- Collage, stamping, and printmaking
- Creative expression activities that build confidence and joy
Each art experience is designed to foster creativity, fine motor skills, and a strong sense of self-expression in a fun, nurturing environment.
